The St. Louis American: Don’t believe the hype. Amendment 3 is about banning abortions, not gender transition

By the St. Louis American Staff

Missouri lawmakers tried to pull a fast one on voters with Amendment 3.

They emphasized that the amendment would ban gender transition care for minors, even though state law already restricts that care. What they buried was the real consequence: A “yes” vote on Amendment 3 is a vote to repeal the reproductive rights protections Missourians approved in 2024 and restore a near-total abortion ban.

Yes. Lawmakers are trying to trick voters into making most abortions in Missouri illegal again.

The original ballot summary drafted by lawmakers didn’t even mention repealing those reproductive rights protections. A judge threw out that summary, forcing the state to tell voters what the amendment would actually do.

The deception is especially galling because Missourians settled this question just two years ago. Rather than ask voters directly to make most abortions illegal again, lawmakers stooped to trying to fool them into doing it.

But we believe Missouri voters are smarter than that and will not be tricked by Amendment 3 supporters’ misleading ads about gender transition.

It goes without saying, but please vote NO on Amendment 3.
